The black sand-beach of Lovina spans some 10 km along six villages on the northern coast of Bali. From this famous resort town, it is only a short drive to Singaraja, the former capital of Bali. While Lovina may not be as big as Kuta-Tuban in the south, a stay will prove pleasant and relaxing. Activities center mainly on the beaches, offering a calm and safe swim. But for those who want to venture out, the Lake of Bratan and many villages with numerous clove and coffee plantation, offer pleasant distractions in the nearby mountains, sealing the north off of the rest of the island. North Bali includes Pemuteran, a non-descript place on the main road to Java, with one undisputed highlight, Menjangan Island. This place, just off the coast of mainland Bali, offers sublime scuba diving and snorkeling.
